When a cutoff scrap of clay fell in a wiggle onto the studio floor, I envisioned a little snake friend looking up at me. And just like that, a whole collection of table top and wall snakes were born. Becoming an instant Carter + Rose favorite, ceramic snakes can be added to a potted plant, or left as a surprise for a friend on their desk. My gallery work is inspired by the organic shapes and repeating patterns of nature. Pressing clay into natural objects, I imprint patterns from logs and rocks, capturing the beauty of small details. Hand-building with various clay bodies, textured forms become repetitive images like ripples in a pond, or cloud patterns in the sky. It is my intention to emulate the feeling of a nature, the calm of an open landscape, inviting these elements and feelings into your home.
