Packing Your Order

When you order from our website, you might wonder how will this cute ceramic item safely get to my home? We hand pack and ship each order from our studio in Portland, OR using sustainable and eco-friendly materials.We go through a lot of boxes and paper, both to pack our ceramic products and to ship in. We source these materials locally from small businesses that specialize in packaging materials and boxes. After shipping for many years we know which sizes of boxes we use the most and can order in quantities that we know we’ll use. Each of our orders gets dropped off right to our studio.We exclusively order cardboard boxes and 100% recycled packing paper for all of our packaging. But luckily our studio is also surrounded by other small businesses who save bubble wrap, packing peanuts and paper from their orders and bring it to us to reuse! We always prefer reusing packing materials whenever we can over buying new ones. So your box might be filled with a fun assortment of reused packing materials. We only use plastic packing materials like bubble wrap when we receive them secondhand from others. We also use water based paper tape. We hope that whatever packaging we send out into the world is reused or recycled. 

We try to use the least amount of packaging necessary to avoid waste, so most ceramics get wrapped in paper, sometimes placed within box, and then tucked into another box padded with paper or other packaging materials.

Packing ceramics is tricky in general because they’re so fragile, but with well placed paper and sturdy boxes, we get almost every product safely to its destination! But even with our packing process sometimes things fall off mail trucks, or get karate chopped right in the middle, or run over. And there’s not much we can do once the box has left our studio. We’re always happy to help if something goes wrong in the shipping process. Just send us a picture and your order number to hello@carterandrose.com and we’ll work something out!
