Along with shipping directly to people who order from our website or Etsy, we also ship our ceramics to stores around the country, and occasionally the world! When we ship to the stores, we’re often shipping 10-100+ ceramics at a time. That’s a lot of fragile things traveling far away from our studio! But we have a process!
We exclusively order cardboard boxes and 100% recycled packing paper from local packaging suppliers for all of our packaging. Luckily our studio is also surrounded by other small businesses who save bubble wrap, packing peanuts and paper from their orders and bring it to us to reuse! We always prefer reusing packing materials whenever we can, over buying new materials. So your box might be filled with an assortment of reused packing materials, it’s a fun mix! We only use plastic packing materials like bubble wrap when we receive them secondhand from others. We also use water based paper tape.
We package our snakes in our custom made boxes to keep them safe during shipping. Our cones get specially wrapped and stacked in paper and burritoed together. They then get nestled and layered into larger boxes for shipping. And tucked in to those boxes with either paper or our repurposed materials. We hope these materials get used again in their stores to get our products home safely or to ship their orders. Our boxes are also great to reuse for in store shopping when customers need to transport their treasures home.
Packing ceramics is tricky in general because they’re so fragile, but with well placed paper and sturdy boxes, we get almost every product safely to their destination! But even with our packing process sometimes things fall off mail trucks, or get karate chopped right in the middle, or run over. And there’s not much we can do once the box has left our studio. We’re always happy to help if something goes wrong in the shipping process. Just send us a picture and your order number to hello@carterandrose.com and we’ll work something out!
