Pinch pots are one of our favorite beginner projects. All you need is clay, a sponge, and your hands!
How to make a pinch pot out of clay:
1. Start with a ball of clay that fits comfortably in your hand
2. Use your thumb to press into the center of the ball, creating a shallow indentation.
3. With your thumb on the inside and fingers on the outside, begin pinching the clay gently, working your way around the circumference.
4.Continue pinching and rotating the clay, gradually widening and deepening the pot to your desired shape and thickness.
5. Smooth out any cracks or uneven areas with your fingers or a damp sponge.
6. Once you’re satisfied with the shape, let the pinch pot air dry completely, usually for a day or two depending on the clay type, weather, and thickness.
7. Or can decorate the pot with textures, patterns, or add a drainage hole before it dries completely.
8. Once dry, you can fire the pinch pot in a kiln if you have access to one, or you can let it air dry completely if using air-dry clay.
